Book Sale: Penang Times Square (22 - 31 March)

I have been notified by 'BookXcess', a business that specialises in selling remainder and over-print books, that they will be holding one of their 'Big Bad Wolf' (BBW) book-sales in Penang Times Square, Georgetown from Friday 22 until Sunday 31 March (inclusive).  The sale will run each day from 9am - 9pm.

Most of their sales are held in the Klang Valley and the company estimated that their 2012 BBW Sales pulled in an estimated crowd of 500,000.  They have a Facebook Page which contains more details about their events and the company in general and also contains pictures from some of their previous events.

Might be worth a look if you are after a few books to add to your collection.

Sale: Gotic Collections - Island Plaza, Penang

Just a quick post to advise that the KL based teak wood furniture specialists are currently visiting Penang with a sale of teak wood furniture.  I looked at their furniture on the last day of the sale when they had their last sale here and some of it was very nice indeed with some unique styles.

The sale is again at Island Plaza on Tanjung Tokong Road near to Jalan Fettes, Penang and will run until 13th January.  Worth a look if you are interested in furniture of this type of just looking for some ideas.

English Book Fair: Penang Times Square (29 Aug - 2 Sept)

Apologies for the lack of posts lately but I have been extremely busy.  Normal service, as they say, will be resumed shortly.

In the meantime I have been sent some information on the above event which will be happening in Penang at Times Square from 29th August to 2nd September.  Might be a good chance to pick up a good book at a hefty discount (between 50 - 90%).  Worth a look maybe.

Switch: Apple Macbook - End of Line Bargains

For anyone contemplating a new MacBook the latest refresh of the Macbook Pros means there are some great bargains to be had at Switch (Gurney Plaza and also Straits Quay).

The price of entire MacBook Pro range has been slashed by several hundred RM in this 'end of line' (EOL) stock clearance as Switch gets ready for the new line to arrive.  Not only have Switch reduced the prices of existing stock but they will also throw in a voucher to be spent on certain Apple upgrades (e.g. RAM or to put towards 'Apple Care').

As an example of the deals available the i7 Quad Core MacBook Pro 15" with a 1 GB Radeon video card (GPU) and 4 GB RAM was previously RM 6,799.  It is now on sale for RM 6,199.  On top of that you will also receive a RM 600 voucher.  An 8GB RAM upgrade costs approximately RM 600 so you could end up paying just RM 6,199 for a laptop that a few weeks ago would have cost you RM 7,399!

Similar deals are to be had across the range but I doubt they will last long.  For anyone waiting for the new MacBook Pro and Air line-up, Switch anticipates stock arriving between 2-4 weeks depending on the model.

Explore Everything Apple: 31 May - 3 June

The above event, a showcase of Apple and related third party products, will be hosted by the premier Malaysian re-seller 'Switch' (whose excellent shop is located on the the 3rd floor of Gurney Plaza and also on the 1st floor at Straits Quay) in the main concourse area at Gurney Plaza between 10am - 10pm daily between 31 May and 3 June inclusive.  Worth visiting if you are in the market for some Apple products!!

Camera Fair: Gurney Plaza (Thurs 24 - Mon 28 Nov)

Found out that there is a camera fair in the main concourse area at Gurney Plaza from 24th - 28th November. How big it will be I'm not sure. More importantly, I'm not sure what there will be in terms of discounted deals, incentives and other offers. I plan to go along on 24th for a look and will post more information on the extent of offers / deals etc.

Starbucks - HSBC 10% Discount (Promotion)

For those who enjoy the coffee, ambience and free wi-fi at Starbucks, customers of HSBC bank will be pleased to know that they are currently offering 10% discount across all food and drinks upon production of any HSBC banking card. I am led to believe they are also doing this promotion for Maybank customers. The staff at Gurney Plaza could not say precisely how long the promotion is running for but, while you will still likely pay more for two cups of coffee and a couple of slices of cheesecake than you would for a hawker based meal for two with drinks, the 10% is worth getting particularly if you are ordering for a group of friends.
