Join the MOB!!!! Monday 18 / Tuesday 19 August 2014 - Georgetown!!

One concept, two great events! MOB Party at Traffic (Bishop Street) and Traffic (Queensbay) on Monday 18th (7pm til late) AND the MOB street catwalk fashion show around midday Tuesday 18th @ Beach Street, Georgetown brought to you by Chan Brothers & Big Cartel.

Looking forward to seeing great chums, who also just HAPPEN to be some of the hottest talent around, including guest DJ and celeb Leng Yein, the famous Chan Brothers Ambassadors Cecilia Black, Jenny Lim, Elene Ong, Ann Liew and over a dozen stunning Penang catwalk models including the beautiful Joelle Tan, Jinju Koid and Roxanne Khor.

Monday night kicks off with the first of two launch events, this one at Traffic Logan (Bishop Street, Penang) from around 7pm with guest DJ Leng Yein and the Chan Brothers Ambassadors. Good music, good atmosphere, meet the organisers and many of the models and of course, photo ops. The tour will then move to Traffic (Queensbay Mall) for around 9pm, with the same line up, to return to Traffic at Bishop Street just before midnight.

On Tuesday 19th, from the early hours there will be a row of sports cars parked up at Beach Street, Georgetown to set the scene and provide a nice backdrop. Then from around 12.15 the show will start with the street / catwalk fashion show featuring some of Penang's top models and of course, Chan's Ambassadors.  Sure to be a great event and the first of it's type in Malaysia. One not to miss I think :)

CNY Dining: Copthorne Orchid Hotel

Not surprisingly with Chinese New Year rapidly approaching I am starting to get notifications about CNY dining promotions.  First up is from the Copthorne Orchid Hotel in Tanjung Bungah.  More to follow.

Festive Dining: Macalister Mansion - Georgetown

And with the last of 3 updates today regarding festive dining I have saved what for me would be the best until last, Macalister Mansion.  OK, there may be only the slightest chance of frost, snow and ice on the day (it pays to be optimistic!!), but the festive offerings at MM really to do look enticing, complete with wine pairing menus.  Details can be found here.

Festive Dining: E&O Hotel - Georgetown

Another option for those who have left it a bit late to plan dining out over the festive period a variety of options will be available at the E&O Hotel, right in the heart of Georgetown.  Details of the range of festive offerings can be found here.

Festive Dining: Rasa Sayang Hotel - Batu Ferringhi

Still not planned your Christmas dining?  Here's one to consider.  The excellent Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa in Batu Ferringhi has a great range of options for eating out over the festive period be it a brunch, buffet or fine dining with some superb set dinners in the famed Ferringhi Grill restaurant.  A guide the the resort's festive dining can be found here.

Hennessy Artistry - Penang 2013

For many, THE Penang clubbing event in the calendar was held last night at SPICE (formerly PISA), in the shape of Hennessy Artistry 2013.

Pick of Penang was delighted to be invited to the event and, like last year, it was outstanding, the larger floorspace of the SPICE venue allowing Hennessy to pull out all the stops to create a super-clubbing experience with great performances from talented singers, musicians, DJs and dancers and a fabulous light show.







Partygoers got in the mood early as soon as the doors opened and, as ever, the event attracted a glamorous crowd, one of them here, my lovely chum Chrissy Yin.

The first act up was '24 Herbs' who delivered a superb and punchy hip-hop performance that really got the crowd in the mood.










Throughout, the artists and DJs were supported by a superb dance crew from KL, all provided co-ordinated by my good chums at RED Artist Management.

The next performance was a superb violin and vocal duo with a great take on some even better music.











Guests were well and truly in the mood by this time, here, another glamorous friend I actually met at last year's Artistry, Wei Wei Teoh (2nd from left) and chums.

Australian born DJ Andy Murphy was next to take the stage with some really great sounds......














......again, supported by the super-sexy dance crew.













One of the great things about Artistry is you get to meet new chums, in this case a charming visitor from KL, in Penang just for the event.

It's also a good opportunity to catch up with folks I sometimes don't get chance to see often enough.











The final performance of the night was from DJ Nicole Chen with a brilliant session of house music.......













.....and more chances to see and shoot the very talented dancers.













Finally, at 2am, that was it.  Sadly all over for another year, but all good things must come to an end.  However, there's still chance to catch Hennessy Artistry this year at the KL event, details of which are yet to be announced.  Details of this and all Hennessy events can be found here.  Some more photos can be found here.

Dining: Hotel Penaga - Jalan Hutton, Georgetown, Penang

I've recently been notified of some dining options at the Hotel Penaga in Georgetown, notably a hi-tea (every Saturday - noon until 3pm) and a BBQ dinner, again, every Saturday (7pm to 11pm).  Currently there is an offer on with both of these dining options - 'Buy 4 / Pay for 3'.

• Hi Tea @ MYR38.00++ per person x 4 persons = (MYR152.00++ - MYR38.00++) = MYR114.00++ total payment

I've always liked the look of this heritage hotel but as yet have not had the time to visit.  Where does the time go?  I do plan to visit as soon as possible though and will publish a review of the establishment and dining once I do.

Event: Hennessy Artistry - SPICE, Penang (25 May 2013)

By way of an update to the earlier post, the ever popular Hennessy-Artistry returns this year with the first 'Global Art of Mixing' party slated for Penang, promising an elevated experience revolving around H-Artistry’s trademark offering: an unmatched, super-clubbing experience featuring a sensational mix of sight, sound and taste. The first of two H-Artistry events planned for 2013 will be taking over the Penang Island this 25 May, at the newly refurbished SPICE (Subterranean Penang International Convention and Exhibition Centre) formerly known as PISA (Penang International Sports Arena). 

Stepping into its sixth year running since 2008, H-Artistry will be elevating the premier super-club experience to next-level proportions this May. The event will feature a never-before-seen set up, unlike any previous H-Artistry events, with the party starting as soon as revelers step into the enclave. 

This year’s no-frills super-club experience will be bolstered by the staple Hennessy Mixing Bars, which will serve the four trailblazers of all H-Artistry events – the signature Hennessy V.S.O.P long drinks: Hennessy Apple, Hennessy Berry, Hennessy Ginger and Hennessy Soda. 

The H-Artistry stage will see a line-up of exciting local, regional and international acts, which will treat Penang revelers to a stellar mix of music styles and genres all through the night. H-Artistry will also feature two solid sets of pumping dance music, which will be administered respectively by one of Kuala Lumpur’s most promising indie/electronic acts, as well as an Australian DJ who is no stranger to stages of international dance music festivals. 

Access to H-Artistry is strictly by invite only. Party goers will be able to obtain passes from the H-Artistry Ambassadors stationed at selected entertainment outlets by participating in the ongoing Hennessy V.S.O.P bottle promotions. Every bottle of Hennessy V.S.O.P purchased will come with two (2) invites to H-Artistry, while a purchase of two (2) bottles will come with five (5) tickets.

Party goers will be delighted to see that the date for the Hennessy Artistry party in Penang has now been announced.  25 May 2013.  Surely a date for the diary 'Artistry' 2013 will doubtless be as good as it gets, featuring top artists, great music and of course - Hennessy!!  This year the event will be held at the SPICE Arena (formerly known as PISA) which I am sure will be a great venue.

Hennessy Artistry: KWC, Kuala Lumpur (8 Sept)

Many readers will be aware that I was recently invited to shoot at the Hennessy Artistry event at Straits Quay, Penang in June of this year, and what a spectacular event it was!  Now hot on the heels of this event comes a further opportunity for people to party with Hennessy.  This time H-Artistry returns to the heart of Kuala Lumpur for the second instalment of 2012’s Global Art of Mixing Trilogy!  The upcoming H-Artistry party is set to take place on Level 15 at KWC (2, Jalan Gelugor, Kuala Lumpur) and promises an eclectic mix and a phenomenal super-clubbing experience on 8 September 2012.  'Pick of Penang' is delighted to have been invited to attend this event by Hennessy but unfortunately conflicting appointments will prevent attendance at this one :-(   Next time for sure!!!

As H-Artistry zeros in on Kuala Lumpur’s latest wholesale fashion hub, around 3,000 party goers will be treated to a mix of world-class music and the trademark H-Artistry atmosphere. Hennessy promises that both seasoned H-Artistry enthusiasts and new initiates alike will be blown away by a revamped Hennessy 'Art of Mixing Zone' featuring the Hennessy 360 Cam, as well as other interactive party elements, making it one of the premier party experiences this September. 

After posing for a seamless, 360 degree panoramic video at the Hennessy 360 Cam, party goers can enjoy their favourite Hennessy V.S.O.P. long drinks at the Hennessy Mixing Bars, where Hennessy Apple, Hennessy Berry, Hennessy Ginger and Hennessy Soda. As ever the gorgeous H-Artistry ambassadors stationed at the bar will be on hand to assist and serve party-goers and demonstrate the ease of mixing a wide range of traditional and innovative  long drinks. 

This instalment of H-Artistry will be headlined by international vocal powerhouse and EDM (electronic dance music) siren Eva Simons, Jakarta’s cult-status DJ Angger Dimas, as well as Kuala Lumpur’s fast-rising electronic dance nu-breeds B.A.T.E. (Brain And The Eye). The night will charge on till the end with the hard-hitting, hipster-worshipped duo Mr.Nasty & GuruGuru (a.k.a. Bass Agents).

Party goers can expect fist-pumping performances and collaborations laced with powerful vocal lashings from Eva Simons. The songstress is best known for her recent collaboration with Afrojack in the track “Take Over Control”, which has become a dance crossover anthem on dance floors around the world. Soju Room 'Joins the Pact' with Mika Hakkinnen

Bundled in to this weekend's events, which will highlight with the Johnnie Walker Black Circuit VIP Race Party at Penang Turf Club later today, was an event at Soju Room (now one of Penang's top night clubs) to encourage people to 'Join the Pact', a Johnnie Walker initiative to promote the important issue of not drinking (alcohol) and driving.

The event is nationwide in Malaysia as is being spearheaded by former 'Formula 1' champion Mika Hakkinnen.  Pick of Penang was at the event and a very small selection of images can be found here.

Johnnie Walker Black Circuit VIP Race Party

The time for this much anticipated event is nearly upon us.  Looking forward to shooting this event on Saturday 4 August at Penang Turf Club, more so because I will be with my good friend, KL based celebrity, Leng Yein.

In addition, former Formula One Champion Mika Haakinnen will be at Soju Room on Friday 3rd August publicising the Johnnie Walker 'Join the Pact' (don't drink and drive campaign).  I was invited to a press conference for this in KL on Thursday 2 August but prior commitments made it impossible to attend.

It will be a busy and enjoyable weekend!!!!
